Check out this video. Max Tech goes over the overheating, throttling and performance issues between 2 same spec M3 MAX MacBook Pro computers.

We all know the 16 performs better than a 14 with any Max CPU. Simple science. I knew that when I got the 14 but the size and weight of the 16 is a deal breaker for many including my self. Also wondering if he had them in automatic or high performance mode?

How has your 14" been? What specs did you get? Mine is scheduled to be delivered next week and I'm having some regrets about my config (16/40/64gb/4tb) and if I should have gone for the 16". I also value portability but the fan noise I've been hearing about could be annoying, plus the throttling. I mainly use mine at home docked to a 48" OLED but I also travel a fair bit and have a few bags that can only fit a 14".

Ive had no issues I'm glad I went with the 14". 16/40, 48/1TB. Of coarse the 16 is a higher performer due to everything being larger. Just looking at them with the backs off will tell you that. If it's going to stay mostly docked then a studio or 16 would be better. For mobility the 16 was just too big/awkward for me and I go to the gym. I think this guy had them in automatic power mode. The 14 probably would have faired better in high performance mode although more fan noise.

If you nee so much power, the 16" is the way to go: better performance, no thermal throttling, no fan noise and much better battery. I definitely wouldn't buy the 14" Max.

Nothing new. Small laptop with same hardware always warmer.

Here's something new. The latest Microsoft Surface Studio with the latest spec and it is over 20% slower than the two year old M1 Max.
