Simply for your interest and to provoke some thought/Discussion.....
And a bit of chocolate fun at the end :)

Here are some 3D Model renders based upon actual sizes plus some educated guessing on what the case of the Apple watch "Could" look like when cut cross/sectioned.

See what you think about the proposed thickness of the wall material of the shell of the watch.

Do you feel it's a realistic thickness for the device?

Remembering it has to be thick enough to be rigid and not dent too easy, but at the same time being thin enough of a shell to allow enough room inside to fit the screen, the computing chip/s the battery and the back of the sensors.

For reference in this 3D model shown here & cut up, the general wall thickness is 1mm

Could be very close to what it is, or could be totally wrong :p

See what you think...... :)

And yes, despite what a certain individual says! :p I still think my analogy of it's like a chocolate egg shell is still a accurate and valid one :)

Albeit with technology inside and not gorgeous sugary cream filling :p

Remember these from before the announcement? Might help answer some questions.

http://9to5mac.com/2014/09/08/alleg...s-specs-surface-ahead-of-tomorrows-unveiling/

Exactly yes.

The official watch dimensions.
Views from the outside of the actual product.
And those CAD renderings you linked to.

All three of those were used in the creation of the images I posted above, which I feel, with a little artistic licence/educated guesswork, may not be a million miles from final reality.

Hope you find those images above interesting :)

Yes great job on the renders. It's funny the wall thickness looks a little big to me but I think 1mm sounds about right .......time will tell (pun intended:D)

More Images to show actual mass of this model.

And a Chocolate Cream Egg one for a laugh :)

(How close this model matches reality is of course unknown, but is based upon all known and measured images and sizes known up to now)

First of all..... Yummy :D

Now the technical and price calculations taken from this model:

Piggie, I love the designs, the comparisons, and I believe you are probably closer to the actual size ans thickness than you think. But now you made me hungry for a candy bar:)

Thank you for the generous comment.
I'm glad I made you and others have a bit of a laugh.

Some I'm afraid take all this "Debate" too seriously.
It's just a wrist computer made by a popular company. Not as if it's the cure for world famine, poverty, the end to all wars and peace to all mankind!

Using all the data (visual and numeric) there is to hand, I can't see I'm a million miles out. A bit out here and there with some internal structure, I'm sure, as there is a degree of guess work on what the internal form of the case/shell will look like as there is nothing to go by other than outside form, dimensions and a very early could of CAD images from one angle.

It could be a bit thicker in some corners internally, but we need to remember, as I was thinking at the time, Apple naturally would want all the internal space it can get, whilst at the same time leaving the shell thick enough to be strong enough to stand up to day to day wear, and hold onto the strap ends.
It's a balance, and these images look, let's say a reasonable compromise between the two, to me.

But given all that, I can't think I'm a million miles off.

Just to re-iterate in more close up what my 1.00mm wall thickness, as a general overall thickness would look like close up.

And remember this is all to scale. :)

How wrong this is, well, only a few weeks and we shall know, but all good fun speculating to see how close we get to reality when we find out.
Will we be very close or shocked and a million miles off.... Time will tell :)
