New York City - city break for designers

Hi there guys,

Will be going off to New York City next month for a week's stay. My mate who is studying a graphic design degree at art college suggested we go on this trip so we can visit the big art galleries also the touristy stuff.

A few questions here for New Yorkers/Americans/people who've visited NYC out there - so for a graphic designer and graphic design student which art galleries are worth visiting?

MOMA
Whitney Museum of American Art
Guggenheim
Museum of Design & Arts
Cooper Hewitt
Metropoltian Museum of Art

However we cannot afford to visit all of the galleries above so if you can please select the best one or two you recommend us to visit.

Any other museums worth recommending?

The hotel we've booked into only serves continental breakfast (i.e. cold) however we intend to go out every morning for hot breakfasts so anyone knows of any good inexpensive places also any restaurants around similar to Dennys, IHOP or Waffle House or something like that?

Also are there any good delis offering inexpensive takeaway sandwiches for lunch?

I recommend MOMA, the Guggenheim and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
I have visited all three on several occasions. The Metropolitan is my favorite for the classics.

I would get a cheap hotel outside Manhattan. Take the subway and get an unlimited weekly MetroCard.

And most museums have student pricing.

Sorry I don't know what their prices are; the only art museum I've been to is the Met; currently a member

The national AIGA offices at 164 Fifth Avenue have a gallery on the first floor that is open Monday through Thursday: 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. and Friday: 11:00 a.m–5:00 p.m.

I don't think the general public can make appointments to visit the Design archive, but you could certainly make an attempt.
