I am not sure why but I can’t seem to get YouTube app Picture in Picture working on my iPhone 7. It does work on my iPhone 12 ProMax and am wondering if the iPhone 7 is too old to support this even though it can do PiP.

Any help is appreciated.

Yeah I dunno what’s going on. One iPhone in the house has it, another doesn’t. Guess which one - mine, and I’m the one who actually uses YouTube. I have an 11 Pro Max

Thanks for the reply.

So you’re saying it’s not working on your 11 Pro Max but is working on another iPhone? Which is the other iPhone?

I have 3 iPhones in this house, 12ProMax, 7 and SE2 and the YouTube PiP is currently only working on the SE2 and 12ProMax but not the 7.

The other is a 13 Pro. I have to wonder if YouTube is only rolling this out to what it detects as newer devices? Not sure what will happen first, me getting PIP on the 11 or me buying a 14

It’s been almost a month now I believe. I just wish there was a way to activate it on my iPhone 7. Or at least a YouTube forum where I could ask for guidance. I’ve noticed MacRumors is great for Apple questions, but obviously not so much for Google questions.

They said it would be rolled out "over the next several days"...but knowing Google and their extremely slow roll outs, they really probably mean "over the next several weeks/months".

My iPhone 13 (and my spare XS) has it, but my M1 iPad Pro doesn't have it yet.

It's also worth noting that if you are a non-premium member, it'll only work for non-music content. You need to be a premium member in order to do music content in PiP.

It’s probably that then.

Just realized the iPhone 7 I have is on 15.1, so will update to the latest 15.5 or 15.6 or whatever is most current and am then update the YouTube app and see if that solves it.

I updated to 15.6 the other day and all apps are up to date. Unfortunately that didn’t do the trick for me, but here’s hoping it works for you. If you go to settings/general in the YouTube app, you will see the PIP toggle if your particular device got the feature “unlocked”, otherwise it won’t even be shown there.

I even just tried signing up for premium to see if that may trigger it - nope

Just closing the loop on this one...my iPad Pro finally got PiP support a couple days ago.

I don’t think it’s related in any way but I finally got PIP after installing iOS 16 pb2. Probably just circumstantial how that happened at the same time though.
