Newb here, seeking advice (PC or Apple, and what laptop)

Hi all, nice forums over here.

A friend of mine recommended me this place so I'll ask my question here.

I'm not a mac user currently (boo on me I know), I currently use windows and I'm getting soooooo tired and sick of errors and viruses and spyware and crappy microsoft programs. So my next computer (a laptop) I'm hoping to be a mac, but I need some honest advice.

I want my next pc/mac to be able to run applications smooth, have good music edting software that lets me edit tracks and even record in to it (obviously I know I need other equipment and stuff), I am a very serious musician so I need a computer that has a good music software, which is why MAC caught my attention.

Also I want my next computer to run games with ease, I don't need some super duper 5000$ graphics card, but I want something that will be able to handle games like world of warcraft, unreal tournament, and stuff like that with little to no problems.

Basically I need a computer that can do music stuff with excellence and then gaming in second place followed by web surfing, the standard stuff.

Honestly, would you recommend a PC or a Apple, and if an apple what laptop would you recommend? I'm very new to the world of apple but I love their stuff and I know they make quality things.

Oh, and I've heard things about Apple switching over to Intel chips, is that true and if so, should I wait?

welcome! I would wait till tomorrow at least and see what gets released.. Tomorrow is a huge day for apple. They release new products and announce updates to current lines.
But a powerbook will prob suit your needs better then an ibook

Yeah, even when I looked myself, the powerbooks grabbed me, I especially liked the 17 inch model

The 17" is very cool, a little big for me, but it has FW 800 so you can plug an external drive faster then FW400 or USB 2.0 which will be good for you since you prob want backups/more room

Yeah, I'll most definitely have my Ipod connected to my laptop and the 17 inch will be nice for watching movies.

The only downside to the Apple thing is that they're more on the highside BUT I know that they're stuff is worth it. Especially with music editing and graphics.

2) Take advantage of the Search function on MacRumors forums. There have been over 2 million posts, undoubtedly your question has been asked and answered in some form before. It may take experimenting with search words and a bit of digging, but there is a lot of information already here.

Example: I had a customer call from 4,000 miles away saying their trackpad on their iBook had stopped working. Within 2 minutes, I had searched and found the answer on MacRumors, and walked the customer through a Power Manager Reset, which solved his problem. I'm a hero
