is there anyway i can use a 24" imac as i separate monitor? like turn off the computer and just use as a monitor ie ps3? also if so can i go mini dvi to dvi to hdmi and still use it in 1080p? thanks in advance.

Yes, that's the purpose of the video out, I run my 20" iMac with an external 20" monitor by the side, giving me twice the real-estate

according to the tech specs I've looked at. The graphics card supports: Mini-DVI output port with support for DVI, VGA, S-video, and composite video connections.
