Newbbie Question About Mackbook Pro 1.1

Hi, this is my first post and i came looking for answers, i was gifted a Mackbook Pro 1.1 i guess for what i read is 2006, it has a Radeon X1600 video card, but it has X 10.6 installed, when i try to run software update it says up to date, but i cant even install chrome on it cause it says the software is too old, can anybody please point me into the right direction on how to upgrade it with a newer version compatible?

well 10.6 is now quite old and the software update will not work any more.

you probably downloaded a recent version of chrome that is looking for the most recent OS X. Hence the no-go.

I'm no expert on technicalities of the hardware so cannot really help on how - possibly - to force an upgrade

Or maybe you can seek out a version of Chrome that runs on 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

Maybe other more techy people can offer better help

Thanks for the response, what im really looking for is to update it to a newer version, i read it can be done but im new to mac and im kinda confuse.

MacBook Pro 1,1 has a 32-bit Core Duo. Starting with Lion, OS X is 64-bit only. This also appears to be the reason Chrome is no longer supported.

You have placed your post in the wrong section. This one is for desktops Mac Pro and not for portable MacBook Pro.

here are two links the first one is sfott 64 which will help you to build a usb install
or the second is the complete usb install for mavericks this is the one that i made & used to get mavericks on my mac pro.1.1 download & restore to usb or look on [Guide] Installing 10.9 Mavericks on older Macs. -HackerWayne

my macbook pro 2006 is running mavericks &running very well Thank you

Once again, the MacBook Pro 1,1 has a 32-bit Core Duo which limits it to 10.6 or 10.7 modded to run on 32-bit hardware. The Mac Pro 1,1 has 64-bit Xeons and can run newer versions of OS X.

at the same time i upgraded my mac pro 1.1 to Yosemite i also upgraded my macbook pro 1.1 to mavericks there are many guides out
 
To clarify everyone's confusion, OP is seemingly in the wrong forum. He says he has a MacBOOK Pro 1,1 - which would make the machine, as redheeler has said, a Core Duo machine, which is 32 bit, and cannot take a newer OS than Snow Leopard.

I believe the answer to your question is - you simply cannot. Not with OS X, anyway. Try a different web browser, or if you need Chrome, try a different OS, such as (dare I say it - 32 bit Windows?) er... Linux!

He's running a 32 bit Macbook Pro. None of these tricks will work on that machine. Your Macbook Pro and Mac Pro are both 64 bit.

if this is so why is my macbook pro 2006 1.1 working with mavericks
my macbook was running snow i downloaded sfott 32 64 on to my macbook downloaded mavericks made a usb bootable image set usb as boot
booted up installed rebooted hay presto i have mavericks on my (macbook pro 1.1 2006) thanks to all the guides on macrumors

Because, like I've been saying, there were two Macbook Pros that were released in 2006. There was a 64 bit 2,1 and a 32 bit 1,1. OP has a 1,1. You have a 2,1.

Again. Two Macbook Pro releases in 2006.

You cannot load Mavericks on a 32 bit Mac. Even with extra steps.

When you go into "About This Mac" check to see if it says "Core Duo" or "Core 2 Duo". Mavericks will not boot from a 32-bit kernel, that is the main reason for all the doubt.

If it says Core 2 Duo, like in this screenshot from my 2010 Mac mini, you've got a 64-bit CPU.

All sfott is doing is the efi patching to say can install on the 64 bit machines that have a 32 bit EFI.

Tiamo method which sfott uses ( acknowledge this and gives credit ) mods the boot.efi file to allow the 64 bit OS to install on the 32 bit EFI/64 bit CPU system.

In terms of successful Macbook Pro then all that sfott claims is the 2,1 and 2,2 which are Late 2006 Macbook Pro's. These have 64 bit CPU but 32bit EFI which is the same combo that the Mac Pro 1,1 has where has 32 bit EFI but 64 bit CPU's.

Macbook Pro 1,1 are Early 2006 models and use Core Duo not Core 2 Duo so as already said here would be very surprised if a 1,1 with a 32 bit CPU gets Mavericks installed.
