Newbee...Help pls (using Windows and Yahoo messenger)

Hello everyone.

My new problem is that I'm impressed by Apple macbook. I cud'nt buy any other laptop. Basically I am an aerospace structural engineer. I may need to run windows for some of the CAE software applications which needs little graphics capabilities. Possibly I can use bootcamp for that. My questions are:

1) Whether all the hardware (internal & external) work on windows under bootcamp? (Eg. isight, mic. phone, all USBs, ext. hard drives, etc..)

2) I wud like to upgrade RAM...may be to 2 or 4 gigs of RAM...Does this affect drivers issue on windows under bootcamp? or is there any drivers missing for windows under bootcamp?

3) Does Gtalk, Yahoo messenger work on Mac?? I mean "talk" feature for voice chats.

4) Can I install pirated windows xp on macbook and use for browsing or chatting or any other application if required??

1: BootCamp drivers are comprehensive
2: No affect whatsoever. However, bear in mind that since the drivers are for 32bit XP (and 32bit Vista, and apparently 64bit Vista?) you will not see all 4GB of RAM in Windows
3: Voice Chat on Mac... don't do it much, so not sure which clients have it, which don't

1. Yes, there's a driver disk you can burn.

2. No, and no. You and your RAM will be fine.

3. I don't think Yahoo messenger does, and I know Google Talk doesn't.

4. At the risk of legal action...... Maybe.

2. bootcamp drivers have some defects, AFAIK, e.g., no step-speed cpu available for windows vista under bootcamp, which shorten the battery for windows vista. Other than that, I haven't heard any performance problem
3. there is no Gtalk app for mac, YIM has mac version, but not sure if it can let you VoIP.
4.....................Its not legal.

About $200 difference is possible from new Macbook to a refubished one.
Which one wud u suggest??

Let me know if u have seen any concerns wid Macbook display quality.

I sure have my concern with my MB's screen, they actually replaced it for me! and I saw problem is showing up again!(in limited fashion).

But my MB is rev A, belongs to most crappy generation of apple's products. So take it with a grain of salt

Refurb...mm. many people suggest it, But i don't have good experience with refurbished apple products (iPods) so I will not recommend it, but its just me, maybe I just always have bad luck with apple.... lol, who knows.

Is macbook display only 262K or 16 million clors???

Also I might not be in USA for long..may stay here for 5 months or so..
I have only one Apple store for the entire nation...India...I'm worried about global warranty if buy a macbook...and refurbished especially.

Guyz kindly suggest me whether can I can go for Macbook? or Just another crappy HP or sony or some **** etc....

I dont think there will be difference of warranty between refurbished and new one.

But if its difficult for you to goto an applestore. you will have to mail it to apple repair center ( I believe apple will pay for the postage)
