Hey all,

So recently my 2012 MBA 11" i7 has started to beachball and hang a lot, I have no idea why.

Someone recommended backing up my Mac, reinstalling the OS (fresh install) and then migrating my backup back over with Time Machine.

I was just wondering whether this would help or will it be a pointless exercise? (I haven't done a "fresh" install since installing Lion.

Have you restarted your computer? Have you checked Activity Monitor to see what apps or processes may be consuming system resources? Those are some basic first steps in troubleshooting that should be tried before resorting to an OS X reinstall.

Here are a few things to try:
  • Repair permissions in Disk Utility and reboot.
  • Reset PRAM: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063
  • Drag your account Library/Caches to the trash and reboot.
  • Create a new user, reboot, login to the new user. See if you have the same issues in the new user account.
