Hi
Noob Question : Gonna purchase an Imac hopefully today. 2.8 with 24" and 8800GS and 2Gb (2x1gb). How would i upgrade this 4gb in the future? I mean, surely i would have to remove 1 gb to replace 2gb stick (=3gb) or is there any other method???

Cheers guys.

Nope, that's pretty much it. The iMac has two RAM slots, and if both are filled you have to remove at least one in order to add another, higher capacity chip.

I just recently got my 3.06 and upgraded it to 4Gigs, I had to replace both memory modules. I got them off of Crucial's website for 140$ shipped with 2day shipping.

This is exactly why I went against "tradition" and went ahead and ordered my 3.06 with 4 gig from Apple. For the extra $60, I didn't have to mess with anything and my ENTIRE system is 100% covered by Applecare. I can amortize that piece of mind quite easily over the next three years.;)
This is the first time it has ever made any sense whatsoever to go with the factory RAM upgrade.
Not knocking ya, just throwing it out there...
hickster

I can understand your "peace of mind" but the price of Apple ram is a bit scary ..

Crucial Memory has a life time warranty and the iMac has easiest memory replacement on the planet, but I can understand where you are coming from and the peace of mind. Heck we already threw down so much money on the imac that 60$ is nothing.

4 gb of Ram can be bought at Newegg for less that $70. It takes all of 5 minues to install and it DOES NOT void any Applecare coverage. Paying Apple for the upgrade is like throwing money away.
