I just got my first mac in 10years--help-- its a G4 laptop . Its comming back to me,somethings, but how do I load programs like Ad-awareSE, or Avast antivirus??

as is anti-virus.

There's never been any, so therefore your used system never got any.

What kind of laptop did you get? iBook or Powerbook? You really don't have much to worry about when it comes to viruses etc.

Post your specs so folks know what you're dealing with; include processor speed, RAM, disk size (and speed), optical info, OS.

No, not really. You've got a bunch of stuff to learn . Just search the forums for your answers... if you don't find your answers - make a new thread if it's really necessary.

We all learn these things!
