hey everyone,

im new to installing windows on the macbook..

....is there any specific guides that i can read up ?

is this a good software to use?
or to buy?
Microsoft Virtual PC 7.0/Windows XP Pro

thanks

Virtual PC doesn't run on a MacBook. You need Boot Camp, Parallels, or the forthcoming VMware.

Parallels Desktop is good software.
If you want to use Boot Camp, check out Apple's site on it. They'll tell you how to do it all.

thank you! i kinda understand boot camp a little better now...

so now w/ windows xp...does it have to be a special version? or edition?
or it can the one that im using right now?

Well without knowing which you're using now...

Boot Camp supports XP Home and Pro, 32-bit. Your existing licence is most likely valid for one computer, so you will need to remove it from whatever it's currently installed on.

32? Dang, no 64 support on the 1.1.2 BootCamp?

The 64-bit version will boot into the installer, and it'll probably install and run too, but Apple say not to use it and there are probably no drivers for it.

It has to be SP2. If you have an older disc of XP laying around, you can slipstream the SP2 updates onto it. It will NOT work with a disc from, say, Dell or HP-- those are specialty discs filled with "Value Added Software" and more than likely will not work.

Bingo. No 64-bit drivers for all the Apple goodies. Perhaps later, now that Core 2 Duo processors are in most the Macs...

how can i tell if its a 32 bit or 64 bit?

sorry, i'm still new to this...

dont know much about software...

thanks!

Let me put it this way: You'd have to go out of your way to buy the 64-bit version of XP. I've not seen it in stores, actually. If it doesn't say that it is WinXP 64-bit edition, then it isn't.
