Newbie! Is this possible?

I am new to the Mac world. So excuse my ignorance! I have order a new iMac that I should be receiving this week. I plan to use the new syatem to do a lot of video editing with my video camera.

I also want to acquire an Apple TV to enable streaming of my created videos to my TV.

Here is how I am hoping this will work - please correct me if I'm wrong or let me know any obstacles that stand in my way.

I hope to use iMovie or Final Cut Expres ot create video files form my current camera files. I want to save a copy of these files for eventual burnng to DVD when I wish.

I also want to import the completed movies into itunes so I can stream those to my Apple TV and view them on my tv.

I will also use the itunes for streaming music and photos from itunes.

Will this work? Can I a maintain a file of the DVD ready movies for eventual burning, and also have the converted movies in an iTunes library for use with Apple TV.

I hope to also acquire the new Time Capsule and store all of this on the 1Terabyte harddrive since I have ALOT of video to edit.

I am certain this is a simple question, but I want to make sure my purposes are served before I buy the Apple TV.

To all your questions, yes, and all can be done out of the box. i.e. with the software and hardware that comes with the Mac and Apple TV.

Yes, very easy. When you import your video footage into something like iMovie, that can be your source files to ultimately send to iDVD for making the future DVDs. And, you can export the footage from iMovie to TV to make videos compatible with TV.

About the only consideration that you may or may not have covered is storage space. Raw Video files tend to be very large (I've got just 20 hours of HDV footage stored as iMovie files taking up about 50% of a 2000Gb external drive). That same footage exported for files available via TV takes up about 40Gb more.

In short, you might want to buy the biggest hard drive(s) you can afford.

most of this will work (you will probably have to make a diffrent file for the appletv then the one for the dvd.) But I wouldn't get a timecapsule to store your footage on. Just get any firewire drive, wifi drives are to slow for editing.

Agreed. You'll want at least a FW 400 connection, if not an 800.

I agree with the previous two postings. Firewire 400 or 800 is the way to go. Personally I do a lot of video editing and streaming with the apple TV and a wireless hard drive doesn't cut it. Even for streaming to the apple tv you will get random pauses in video and delays in loading videos.

Yup, all will work, and you will probably be surprised at how easy it all works!

As for the Time Capsule, it is a great way to backup your movies, but as people mentioned before if you are going to be editing the movies directly, then you should have them on a drive connected with firewire. wouldnt hurt to edit on the firewire drive, then backup with time capsule. i am an avid backup supporter so i would say go this route.
