I am completely new to iTunes and my iPhone which I have only had for 3 days.

My goal here was to be able to take some quicktime videos on my PC and be able to watch them on my iPhone. Seems like the iTunes user interface is confusing as all get out. It will let me add video to the library, but nothing sync'ing with the phone. I try to add video to a new playlist but that doesn't seem to work either.

Reading the online instruction manual, something they forgot to give you with the phone, it talks about being able to import your CD's, but it seems to deliberately leave out importing video.

This seems like a far cry from an MP3 player where you can just copy files to the device.

I am wondering if I have to "jailbreak" the phone to copy what I want to it.

I notice that sync'ing pictures and contacts with gmail seem to be one way - iTunes doesn't automatically sync the pictures and contacts back.

Best wishes,

iPHONE 3G newbie

hmmm, sorry John i'm not a PC owner so i'm not sure how the iSync page shows on your monitor.... but on my Mac, once i plug my iPhone 3G, it gives me a Sync page and from there it will automtically sync. i have the ability to manually sync photos, videos, applications....individually. make sure you make folders, for example i have a folder just for wallpapers. so my best advice is to review your sync options once you plug your iPhone into your PC.

Perhaps I have not made myself clear

I told iTunes to add my videos to the libary. They show up under movies. I ended up dragging them to a new play list I created. The videos are checked, in both the movies section and the playlist. When I tell the iTunes to sync, everything except the videos get synced.

I even ran the coversion program in iTunes to convert to iPod format.

What am I doing wrong?

Best wishes,

John Coffey

Don't you need to convert the movies/videos to be playable on the iPhone? I just recently learned how to put videos onto my iPhone/iPod. There is a convert option in iTunes, but when I sync it after converting with iTunes, I get no sound. So I downloaded iSquint and converted my videos through that. Find that converted video in my iTunes, and sync. Works like a charm on the phone.

Problem solved more or less

:) The act of synching requires that I select the iPhone icon, go over the video tab, and scroll down (which I wasn't doing before) to see my videos listed. the problem is that I was looking at the TV videos and not the movies videos, which I need to tell it to synch.

haha I had that EXACT same issue when I first tried to sync my iPhone.

Videos (under "Movies" libary) not syncing

I am having the exact same issue. Movies I have created (from other stuff) show up under "Movies" under the library but will not sync. I am using 3GS and XP Pro. Under "Video" tab under the iphone only shows Rented Movies and TV Shows.
All movies I have made play just fine under iTunes. just will not sync with phone. I already converted them to the correct format using another program or the iTunes software (version 8.2). Made sure same or less resolution than iphone res.
I even downloaded Apple's test video to check conversion/syncing. It converted just fine but also did not sync. Then downloaded their already converted file to just try syncing. Again, no joy.

Very dissapointing. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
