Newbie problems.... trackpad and tabbed browsing

Hello, well I'm almost completely new to Macs and I just booted up my new iBook G4 and installed all of the updates. Two things that I'm not able to figure out, though - the first being the big trackpad button; everything seems to require double-clicking to activate, or at least to hold down the button somewhat in order to get the computer to respond to the click. Is there some way I can make it more snappy?

Also, I'm using Safari.... why can't I get tabbed browsing to work? apple-t doesn't do anything and there is no "new tab" option under File.

Okay, never mind about the tabbed bit... I figured that out.

try fiddling around with the touchpad preferences in System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse (in particular the doubleclick speed)

Thanks, but that doesn't seem to help... I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or what... I guess I'll just have to get used to a heavier "click" with the mouse button... It is quite annoying, though.... I'm finding myself clicking on any link multiple times until there is a response.

1) In Safari, hold the Command/Apple Key and click on a link to open in a new tab.
2) For right-click/click-hold commands, hold the control key then click, and it acts exactly like a right click.

Something's not right...I can do an extremely snappy click and let go on my trackpad and it works 100% of the time. Go to your local Apple store or dealer and compare yours to theirs and get it serviced if needed. Do it ASAP, not worth installing all your software and such if you're just going to end up getting a new one (doubtful) or something.
