Hi all, regular iMac user but newbie to this…

I’m going from a 2gb fusion iMac to 512gb MacBook Pro.

I have 2tb of iCloud and a 4gb ssd drive so space not an issue.

When I check my iMac space I have 377gb of space left

Checking my iCloud I have 1.06tb of 2tb left.

I know some space will be OS, apps etc but I’m 99% sure some of my photos and videos aren’t in iCloud yet.

How do I guarantee that I’ve saved everything before wiping my iMac please?

Happy to whack it all on my ssd drive but don’t want to duplicate files in iCloud either.

Thanks!

Sorry I should say I’ve already transferred the files from ‘documents’ folder on the iMac to my ssd

If you manually moved your files into the iCloud area in the Finder you can check and see if they are there in the iCloud.com web app. Another method could be using Apple Time Machine on your iMac and backing up your whole iMac drive to your SSD and then restoring your MacBook to the iMac Backup using recovery mode. The only issue with this is that it will wipe your MacBook drive clean and install the exact install that was on your iMac.
