Newbie question Shshfile.

Hi there,
I have a 3GS 16g Iphone using MS windows Vista. Unfortunately I updated like a **** to 3.1. I have used that USBViewer thing and wrote down my ECID. I then used that tool called ....umbrella and followed the instructions to create the ECID has a shsh file. I know I have done it right by the size of the file being: 64kb. When the eventual 3.1 OTB jailbreak is released, what do I need to do with the SHSH file? Also, how do I ensure that my ECID is on file with Saurik in Cydia or whatever it is? I have done that thing in Notepad but I don't know whether or not I have done that right.

If you are using umbrella then you also got a file call TinyTSS.exe. This allows you to actually use the blobs (00.shsh file) created by umbrella to create your own iTunes activation server by routing the activiation request to your internal machine (127.0.0.1) and it will see the 00.shsh file instead of going to apples server.

The whole purpose of this is because when Apple releases a new firmware (like 3.1) they stop signing old firmwares. e.g. I saved my blobs on sauriks server so I was able to use umbrella to pull that file and make my own 00.shsh 3.0 activation file meaning I can restore to 3.0 and acitivate with TinyTSS as long as I own the phone. If I didn't have the file or had it cached on sauriks server, I would get an error when trying to restore to anything other than the current signable firmware (3.1 right now).

you won't need the shsh for 3.1, you'll only need it when 3.1.1 or 3.2 or whatever is released and apple stops signing 3.1, then you'll have the ability to restore, or downgrade to, 3.1 again.

to ensure it is saved to the cydia server, the 1st time you run cydia after you jailbreak, a dialog should pop up asking if you want to save it.
