Newbie to Apple

Ok well I went out on a limb and purchased a oldie but hopefully goldie 2006 24" iMac for $670. It came preinstalled with Tiger and i quickly upgraded to Snow Leopard as I didnt want to pass judgement based on the old OS. So far... I'M BLOWN AWAY as to how much better OSX is compared to everything else. I thought it would take awhile to get use to things but everything seems so natural and overall im very pleased. I do have 2 questions though. my imacs specs are as follows

2.16ghz intel core 2 duo
3GB ram(which apparently is what this model maxes out as =( ..)
250GB HDD
128 Nvidia video card

I really want to upgrade this harddrive to 1TB. Is this an easy procedure to do? are they're and guides on how to do this? Second I tried playing Call of Duty 4 and was really dissapointed with all the lag. I read some where I can upgrade the video card to the 256MB nvidia card but wanted to know if there was going to be any noticable diffrence. also if i do go ahead and upgrade these to things will i notice any speed diffrence( ie startup,shutdown times, opening apps, browsing...) BTW what size HDD does this iMac need? will any internal HDD do? im looking at this HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136490 any other suggestions? thanks for any replies
 
U should havE done ur research, u need to take the whole screen off with suction caps, gfx card can't be replaced, as it's on board. And hard drive u still need to take the screen off. 128mb gfx card Will not play anything really.
 
Well to start with the game. You cant expect a machine that was built in 2006 and was never intended to be able to game to run a very demanding game that was released in 2007. Not sure that there is anything you can do about that. the GPU was just not designed for that. Macs are not for gaming.

As far as the HDD goes you will have to do alot of research. But there are things out there about that im sure. Honestly I would recommend an external HDD that you could just sit behind the imac itself.

I resent that statement. Macs aren't built especially for gaming, but the newer Macs with discrete graphics will run games just fine. The NVIDIA 9400M handles slightly older games nicely.

To OP, you can upgrade the HD, but do the research. If you make a mistake, I doubt there is still AppleCare warranty to cover you since it only covers 3 years.
 
actually after doing research all night. the HDD is upgradeable and apparently not that hard. i also contacted a apple tech who informed me that the video card is upgradeable but its VERY difficuilt to upgrade because its mounted on the logic board. oh btw djcorrosive your emai was not appreciated and thanks for nothing. smart ass
