Newbie to .dmg files Image or executable???

Good day everyone. I'm new to mac so sorry in advance for the simple questions!

I'm using Xp pro. I have a .dmg file I need to burn to a disk. My question is, is the file an image file, or is it an executable in OS X? And what programs to use to burn it if it is an image file?

It's a disk image, basically a filesystem in a file. Disk Utility in OSX can burn images to CD/DVD.

Excellent, but what to use if your using windows to burn?

Some dmg files are basically iso's in disguise. You could try changing the extension and burning via whatever your normal method is.

Note that this is not guaranteed to work. Even if it does work there i sno guarantee that it will produce a disc Windows can read. A standard dmg will contain a single HFS+ filesystem which Windows can't read.

That said dmg's are really flexible. A dmg can contain lots of different filesystem types so you might be lucky.
