HI
Just got my new 17" SR MBP yesterday. After about 20 mins of use I got what looks like Mac's version of MS Windows "Blue screen of Death!". The screen slowly greyed out from top to bottom and had a dialog box in the middle say "System need to shut down, please press and hold the power button". So I did what I was told, only to experience the same thing 20 odd mins later... and the like an hour later... I was like WTF!

So called the support line and they ran thru some tests found nothing, so one option he gave me was to return the MBP and they would send a replacement, but he recommended that I perform a complete reinstall before taking that option, so last night after receiving the grey screen of death I done a fresh install but did not get a chance to do anything more than set up the basics.

I plan to use it tonight when I get home and hoping not to get the Grey screen of Death!

Now my question is if I get the grey screen do I return it?

Thanks

Congrats on the purchase, and a (hopefully) successful recovery from what will (also hopefully) be your only casualty!

If, after this clean install, you get a fatal system error as before, then yes, definitely take them up on the replacement offer. You haven't invested too much time-wise or in personalizing the machine yet, so you're looking more at deferring your enjoyment rather than having to rebuild a long-term environment.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks, I had been waiting for a for the new ones for sometime now!

Wow, what a horrible way to start your switch experience.

You seem to be handling it very well though and seem not angry :)
Though I think I would be after all the "it just works" stuff!

No point getting angry, aint going to make it any easier!! Well I got back from work yesterday and to my wifes disappointment I picked up my MBP and sat there using it for about 3-4 hours. All seemed good but kept getting problems while surfing, it would just hang there and was not able to connect to the internet until I rebooted the machine (thought the problem was my router as my PS3 does the same thing everynow and again). But luckily no kernal panics! By the time I got to bed was thinking I may just keep this one all seems to be not that bad. This morning however different story... so checked my router and all setting seem to be fine, all my other machines working. So powered up MBP so thought catch up on my sports and within a minute of using surfing get the same problem with losing my connection, so checked my other windows based machines and all fine. So shut down and powered up the MBP same thing after another 5 mins. So repeated process of rebooting. Now here comes the bummer! 3rd time get the kenrel panic.. :(

So looks like mine is going back :(. Reading this forum seems like there is an issue with the airport, pretty much sounds like thats the issue with this one. I am not going to try some of the fixes some have recommended so just going to call Apple care for the replacement.
