well...after being a PC user for many years I've just picked myself up a used iBook!

Basically, I'm kinda trying to do some serious writing (words not music) and am far too easily distracted when I get on my PC (games, myspace, music, art, ebay...forums!) so i wanted a 'standalone' machine purely for writing and not much else (maybe a bit of music while i work). I've always liked the look of Mac stuff so thought why not. Ok so the ibook isn't the highest spec in the world but i figure for pure word processing (and maybe inseerting the odd image) it'll do what i require.

now all i've got to do is get my head around installing open office or similar!!

i'm sure i'll be posting on here again before long with questions/problems etc, but for now i just thought i'd say hello!

peace

Congratulations and welcome!

Remember to check out the Macrumors beginners guides if you have any troubles.

Pages is awesome, and NeoOffice is good, but a bit slow :)

NeoOffice is based off OpenOffice, but is usually an update behind unfortunately. There will be a non-java (unlike NeoOffice) OpenOffice in the future, and that will be a lot faster (the alpha out now is very buggy).
