I'm a newbie so please be gentle. I'm having to *reluctantly* dive into the world of adobe illustrator and i'm at the deep end already, I was wondering if you could help me with something.
I have been given an .ai file to work on (AI CS2). It consists of 5 rings, one outside the other getting bigger. I have no idea how it has been made but i believe it may have been using masks. I want to apply text on a path - the path being one of the rings - but it tells me I have to do this on a non-compound, non-masking path - what does that mean?! I have tried releasing the compound mask but this removes the white space between the rings - hence why I think it uses masks. I have typed text on the exact path i want in photoshop - exporting the one ring i need and making that a path in PS etc - but when i save for web as a PNG and import it back into flash 8, the quality is terrible. The writing follows the path so accurately that any bumps in the path mean the writing is bumpy. I thought maybe if i did this in AI this wouldnt happen as it is all vectors and smooth and nice and pretty. But at the moment I am losing patience....!
Am i on the right track? What am i doing wrong (both with PS and AI)? Please just tell me whatever you think will help as I am 100% stuck. I am still really a beginner with PS and have only ever used AI under the guidance of a friend so i really am a newbie.
