It seems that there's a lot of confusion around, and with people jailbreaking for the first time, everyday, there needs to be fool-proof clarity on the scaremongering, the media have given this.
This is how I see it:
The act of jailbreaking alone, does not install OpenSSH.
To find out if you have OpenSSH installed:
Enter Cydia.
Select Manage.
Select Packages.
Scroll through the list, looking for OpenSSH.
If it isn't there, then you don't have it installed.
A lot of people also, just want to be made 100% clear, if accessing their iPhone's file structure via USB(iFunBox, etc), instead of via SSH over Wi-Fi, will leave them vulnerable to these attacks. As I understand it, you will be safe, if you access the file structure this(via USB) way.
I'm also led to believe, that doing it this way, limits some advanced functionality, such as running commands from the command line, as well as being able to set various file permissions.
I'm sure the majority just want to alter a few icons/alert tones, etc, without using Winterboard(and the small amount of lag it brings).
