Newest MBA's Problem Free?

The MBA, like any first generation product, had some quality issues (apparently with screens, core heat, etc...). My question is for those who have purchased MBA's in the last month or so, do they seem to be problem free?

I am very close to purchasing a MBA and I want to make sure that most of the lemons are out of the system.

Absolutely not. I bought a Macbook Air just the other day. In fact, I even started a thread about my horrible experience. You can find it here:

Long story short, I went through three Airs before I finally found a good one.

I really love my Macbook Air, but I would be prepared to make a few trips to the Apple store.

Also, heat is still a problem. I can successfully shut down a core if I push the machine too hard.

I have had my MBA, the 1.6 model, for 2 weeks and have had no problems. I did delete some of the files that were installed to free up hard disk space, but the machine does everything I have asked it to do and the battery life is very acceptable.

I suggest examining your computing needs and buy the Mac that best fits your specific needs. I use the MBA when I travel and not as my primary computer. I keep most of my files on my MBP or desktop iMac at work. I would not get an Air as my only computer and try and "push" it to do tasks best left to more powerful machines. In my view it works best as the companion computer. Accept its limitations or buy another Mac. I hope this was helpful.

On the other hand, I have a week 1 MBA... and no major issues.

I never experienced core shut downs. It did run hot, so I reapplied thermal paste and installed coolbook. But no real differences as far as I can tell - it was working before, it's working now. It ran hot when I encoded movies before, it runs hot when I encode movies now. But never core shut down, before and now.

By the way, I also have invisible shields and a silicone iskin keyboard cover. No heating issues that I can notice.

The MBA is like any Apple product, "its hit or miss" I have had my MBA for 3 months no problems, but my MBP had to be replaced 4 times to get a good one. I think that every Apple product should be bought with Apple care, but I will say that my apple store has made EVERY problem an absolute delight to take care of. Apple might not get it right the first time, but they stand by their product 100%

Hi,

I bought my MA and a MP back in March, and have no problems with the hardware. I did re-install OSX on the MA, but that was only to get more space.

Seeing as these two are my first two Apple machines, I guess I am among the lucky ones.

I'm on my second week with my MacBook Air (1.8/SSD) and have put it through its paces running 3 youtube videos and 2 quicktime simultaneously with processor load and fans running maxed. So far I've not had any issues.

Bad news

Dear All,

Bad news... After problems with my first MBA 1.8/SSD today I received my second brand-new MBA.

Things started bad already when I discovered 3 small dent's/paint damages on the case. (any one else have this?) But ok... I am willing to live with that.

From the moment I start the system up the fan starts to run instant (much faster and louder then my first MBA). After 3 minutes with only a simple youtube video the core shuts down. This time much more aggressive and faster then my first MBA. I regret now I brought my first one back..

I feel very disappointed in Apple's quality control. Those damages on the paint are unacceptable for a $3000 euro machine.

Clear for me is that no MBA is the same. And I start to feel convinced that the core shutdown is related to the build quality of the MBA. I think a good constructed MBA don't have such an issues, like those forum members who don't have any problem at all.

I going to call apple care now and I will see what they say.

It hurts me I have to talk negative about Apple, and I feel very sad for my apple dealer who tried more then his best for me

I let you know. I still don't give up and I wait till I have a good working MBA. Going to a MBP is not an option anymore since I'm so used to the lightness of this system.
