Newest version of iTunes with UNLOCKED iPhone - Does it work?

Hey there,

I got an UNLOCKED iPhone with 1.0.2 firmware,

is it possible to use the latest version of iTunes and NOT update the phone's firmware to 1.1.1 - Will this work fine, or will it BLOCK my iPhone?
