News app notifications setting confused at what its supposed to do

I'm in the UK and only just got the News app with the 9.1 update.

I noticed that when I go into both the Notifications section of Settings and also Settings/News, there is notifications setting (see my screenshot).

But I'm confused as to what its supposed to do, as I don't get notifications of new stories.
Can anyone shed some light on what the setting is supposed to do and how it works?

I too would like to know this. Notifications of stories relevant to me would actually make this app useful.

Notifications come up periodically if you haven't used News in a while. They don't do story notifications (yet, I assume).

Would be awesome to get news notifications, particularly for breaking news. Hopefully this will be included in iOS 10.
