Can someone who has used both explain what the difference is?

Can someone who has used both explain what the difference is?

Apple bought it and renamed it.

In all seriousness*...

- Apple has created a new format that allows content to appropriately fit to device (Texture used PDF, I believe).
- Apple also added some newspapers and “digital publishers” which I don’t believe texture had.
- There may also be some differences in the magazine catalogue, but I’m not sure

*Full disclosure: I have used neither, just read about it. Here’s some good info

I had a Texture subscription and immediately switched to News+.

You basically get access to more content, of which a lot is formatted better for smaller screens. Love it or hate it, the user interface is very different. Device-to-device syncing is also better. For example... I can read up to a certain page on my iPad, then switch right to my iPhone and it keeps my place.

There really isn't a reason to keep your Texture subscription, unless you absolutely hate the News+ interface. I sugguest just signing up for the free 1 month trial and feel it out.

One thing that News+ doesn’t offer is back issues. With texture you can read back issues.

Actually you can view back issues, it’s just isn’t real clear on how you access them. When inside a magazine, tap the magazine name at the top center of the screen. That will take you to the magazine’s home page where you can access the back issues.

I have both.

The primary differences boil down to formatting/UI and the fact that News+ combines the content of the old Apple News and Texture.

There are some differences in available magazines though. One that I noticed is that Texture has Smithsonian Magazine, and News+ does not. News+ does seem to have some of my Smithsonian back-issues available to me though (at least those I've downloaded previously in Texture).

I haven't confirmed this yet but I think News+ actually has more magazines than Texture, but I didn't see anything new that I was all that interested in.

My guess (personal opinion only) is that Texture will be left to wither on the vine. As publishing contracts for Texture expire they may not be renewed unless Apple convinces publishers to let them publish through both Texture and News+.

Thanks. I had a feeling there must be a way to do it.

I agree. It sure seems that way.

I went title for title to compare both services and it appears News+ has just about every magazine I'd want from Texture, aside from Interior Design. The advantage, I'm assuming, is that some magazines in + are Apple News Format versus Texture which is exclusively PDF's. I imagine ANF's are more pleasurable and immersive to view.

My only concern is back issues. I think I read somewhere that this is dependent on each title. Some mags have all the back issues available, others do not. I will do the free trial down the road when I have more free time and see for myself.

Not sure if I feel that the "Apple *" brand is really that strong for their services. All arguments aside, this style of branding has absolutely zero creativity behind it and just reinforces the dull image Apple has gained under Cook.
