Hi all. I am looking for newspaper templates for my students (6/7th graders) to create newspaper about historical events. Old looking ones would be nice. Just can't find any good ones...

Thanks much!

What programs are they using to put these papers together? What precisely do you mean by templates i.e. grids, style sheets, the works?

Many newspapers use proprietary large-scale publishing systems, sometime with their own custom-designed fonts... not something you can just download and use.

Could you describe what values you're trying to teach children by designing an old fashioned newspaper?

Why not try to develop a new kind of newspaper or service?

You're not going to print it out on an old-fashioned press after all.

So what's the point you're trying to make?

As a part of the Social Studies expert project for my students (middle school), I would like them to create some sort of a newspaper about a historical event they chose to research, describe the event as if they were reporting at the site and share it with other students and families. They will be using word 2004, and I want it as simple as possible.

The point is, it has "values" I believe YOU couldn't POSSIBLY comprehend; that there WAS a time PRE-Internet, where people READ NEWS from a paper. When children were taught by RESEARCHING BOOKS, NOT typing into a search box. This was also a MUCH more RESPECTFUL generation; and by listening/learning from doing so, grew into a much more intelligent one than the ones today - that are fatter, lazier, and less willing to LEARN (unless it's on a TV or PC monitor) and MORE willing to EXPECT what USED TO BE EARNED. Is that era over? Maybe... But DON'T DISCOURAGE the user from enlightening youth with what once WAS while pushing for what YOU WANT to be (which is only what MAY be) as if it were what WILL be. Yes, technology is amazing and astoundingly much faster than it used to be; but kids are DUMBER - having the luxury of now RELYING on it for everything! Here's a NOVEL idea; have your kid read a NOVEL.. They MIGHT just learn something by READING something... Because as Confucius said, "One can not judge the future without first looking at the past."...

Also, some people (MYSELF INCLUDED) LIKE that authentic, antique look; especially since we ourselves are beginning to fit into the antique category ;)

PS: To the original commentary poster, DON'T change your layout or lesson plan due to the ignoramus writings of the ding-dong who's obviously online searching for a "point" to his ("value"-absent) life while neglecting to LIVE his outside of his PC.
