I've not seen a thread addressing this yet but looking at the subscription prices (at least in the UK), it seems that Zinio is consistently cheaper than the same subscription in Newsstand.

Are there any benefits to newsstand over Zinio that makes it worth the extra cost? Currently Zinio also has a wider range. If that were to change then it might be more convenient to have all my magazines under one system but at the minute it looks like Zinio is winning on price and range..?

Since Newsstand is a folder for custom apps, publishers can provide additional features that the Zinio app doesn't provide, e.g. Search, and additional interactive features that aren't available in a Zinio issue... I'm thinking of Popular Science whose custom app app resides in Newsstand and has different content than their Zinio issues.

I was wondering the same thing... I just discovered zinio a couple days ago and only bought 1 sub because i wanted to use newsstand instead! But now that i see a significant price increase between the 2 i think ill stick with zinio. Ill get a email from zinio instead of a push notification from newsstand when new issues are out!

I can vouch for Zinio and think it's actually better than newsstand. I started on Zinio in 2004 on PC and still can get those magazines today on the mac. You can read the magazines on any platform and you usually get really good deals for subscriptions. And the selection is usually better too.

Zinio is very cool for magazines.

But it seems that the majority of newsstand magazines are simply scans of the print version with a few notable exceptions (such as Popular Science).

There's quite a price difference between some of them for exactly the same content.

Yep, it's up to the publishers whether they build custom apps with additional features for Newsstand or use Zinio.
