Just out of curiosity, who does everyone want to be the next England footbal (soccer) manager???
I know Scolari has been given a contract but he has not signed yet. I would personally like to see the job go to Martin O'Neil because of what he did for Celtic but; more importantly, the almighty Wycombe Wanderers.

Me. I need the money. Think my grocery clerk background would get me the job?
I think you should apply - put in a low tender. You'll get to use the same players after all so how hard can it be?

Look at Canada!!!! They can't play British sport for their lives!!! Scolari took up Portugal and England are better than Portugal. But yes; i do agree about the paparazzi in Britain. Some of them deserve to be shot.
Anyway, go on Martin O'Neil. McClaren is out of favour now.

I was never a big fan of the idea of hiring someone who didn't speak english to be the England manager.

At least Sven spoke the native language of England (no, not chav-speak.......the other native language).

We need someone who knoews what it takes to win something big, oh crap that rules out an English manager then! I would LOVE to see Arsene Wenger get the job as I think he is the best manager in the world. But from the current candidates it would have to be Big Sam from Bolton.

Luiz Felipe Scolari has rejected England's offer, due to the UK press.

I don't believe that excuse for a second. That's just a calculated way of deflecting criticism elsewhere.

Anyone who goes to the bother of being interviewed for that job knows the score. I suspect he was either using it as leverage to squeeze more money from the Portuguese FA or possibly the alleged death threats may have had a role to play.

Rumour is, he was approached before Scolari – they've been discussing that story on Five Live this afternoon. Which, if true, would make McClaren or Allardyce or whoever actually gets the job third choice manager...

Yeah.. he has said many times he doesn't want to do it though. Thank god. :p

I hope it isn't Sam Allardyce... The way he goes on in interviews about it makes him sound really desperate to get it, and that he deserves it just because he is english.

Much rather O'Neill gets it, or Steve Mclaren, they are the only two managers who have euro experience

Allardyce is a far better manager than McClaren.

But McClaren will be named the new England manager on Thursday.

What's especially brilliant is that it took the FA three months of backward-and-forwarding and indecision to simply promote the assistant manager. Glad to see they're maintaining their standards down at Soho Square.

Still, their decision has annoyed Sam Allardyce so there's at least one positive to come out of this... :D

Stuart Pearce was for me the best man -

- tough, passionate and proud. Everything Sven isn't.

Maclarens last 2 UEFA cup games is probably what clinched it for him. Quite remarkable they were too.

Also inexperienced and unproven at that level.

I don't know why people are so disparaging about Sven Goran Eriksson. Highest FIFA rankings (and seedings) for years, excellent results (barring a few cock-ups)...

How soon people forget the likes of Kevin Keegan and Graeme Taylor.

To me, there's just a ridiculous amount of expectation that England are somehow good enough to be world champions and that anything that falls short is seen as a failure of management.

You have forgotten Sven's most important quality, a quality shared by Capello, Scoliari, Hiddink and Martin O'neill. And one that is absolutely essential for an England manager.

Not English. :D

Personally I think that the FA should have more agressively pursued Hiddink

Those managers didn't get paid anywhere near what Sven get, they also didn't have the such an amazing array of talent.

It is easy to hide behind that games won ratio, but just look who we have been playing in those games.

Sven is poor and Stevie Mac will be even worse.
