The trouble with these is they are easily outside of a 1 year window into the future. Do you want to wait so long?
LOL I think Intel has made the Mac community crazy. August 2006 -- the MBP has been out for less than a year with Yonah and was only ever speed-bumped once (before being shipped). Merom isn't even in a Mac notebook yet. Much less Merom speedbumps in the pipleline. If Merom were to drop into an MBP by the end of the year, get a speed-bump in April 07 or so, and be replaced by Penryn just before Christmas of 07, this is still a vast improvement over how Mac updates have *ever* worked in the past.
I know you're the Apple hardware naysayer, but seriously, this timeline doesn't sound so bad to me. Granted that the visibility as to whether the top of the line Macs have the same or better hardware than the top of the line Wintels is now much clearer than it ever was before, and this puts pressure on Apple to instantly embrace new Intel chips... but this is still a very rapid pathway. Even for the Wintel world. What's the penetration of Core Duo, let alone Core 2 Duo, in Wintels being sold right this minute on shelves?
