Weird, although i dont have my iPad right here now, coudnt that pic show the ambient light sensor, cant remember :p

Nothing about this suggests that there is a new iPad coming out soon. All it tells us is that the next one will probably have FaceTime, which we have known ever since the iPhone 4 came out.

Q1/2011 will be when the next gen comes out. It is not that hard to understand this given the way Apple typically updates their product lineups.

Honestly, from this distance it's hard to tell what's going on, but 9 to 5 Mac says we're looking at a next-gen camera-equipped iPad fielded specifically to test video calls. As you may recall, iPhone software surfaced with a very similar menu just weeks before the iPhone 4 came out, which either means someone was inspired to create a clever 'shop, or that we just got our first real glimpse at iProd 4,1. Oh, and Mr. Extreme Closeup? He's our friend Blurrycam's old college roommate, didn't you know?

it is why I made the statement that I did. I also don't see why they would be testing this out in the wild already if the release won't be until about April.

Yeah, I get that, but I still say that it doesn't really suggest a new iPad soon. I think Apple is quite happy with the current sales numbers and they are getting ready for a huge quarter of sales from the holidays. It would be a mistake to release a new one now considering they are just now finally getting a handle on keeping up with demand.

Yes. A new model equipped with a camera will be released in November.

(After all that is what you want to hear, right?)

I heard it launches the same day as the iPhone 4 antenna update and comes with free cake.

It's funny that you are being sarcastic yet there are clearly people who believe this. I know this is MacRumors, but people are being ridiculous. I remember reading people thinking the new iPod touch was getting 3G data.

Some people are just not very good at speculating. I fully admit I am not that great at it, but I always tend to believe rumors that seem to make the most sense rather than the ones that don't.

THE CAKE IS A LIE!!!

Oh, and I think that the Video Call Debugging feature is a remnant of the 4.x build. I also forsee the next gen iPad coming out in May/June with iOS4.x and not 5.x.

First, that picture says absolutely nothing.

Second, no new iPad is coming out any time soon. Common sense tells EVERYONE this.

Apple just finally started meeting demand for the iPad. Apple is smart with business, not dumb. Why start selling something new before interest wanes for the old device.

I would love to see one at the end of this year, but I'd honestly feel really bad about the people who bought them earlier this year. I know that's silly because they knew it'd be replaced, but so soon is too soon. I returned my iPad (regret it slightly), and cannot wait until next year though. It'd be my first midnight Apple launch :D

But of course they are working on the next iPad, just as Msoft are working on the console after the 360 and Sony the PS4

All these things are not due out yet, but of course, people need to be working, at various stages on future models.

What's worrying from a users point of view with Apple more than any other maker, is what things they think you should NOT have, and not what things they can manage to fit into the device.

Like the well talked about Camera issue.

Some people like the idea of a camera, others maintain they don't.

Despite the fact they if the iPad originally had one, they would all say how great it was to have a camera, but that's a different issue. :)

For me personally I hope they fit a camera that can take stills and video on the back of the same spec of the iPhone4. There is plenty of empty space inside the device for it, and I don't see why the iPad should be the "poor relation" to the iPhone.

Ok, "YOU" might not want a camera, but "OTHERS" will like one.
If it's fitted then everyone can choose how much they use it, but if it's not there, then no-one has the choice.

Just a front facing camera (facetime) will be a total waste for me, as I will never ever EVER use it. Only thing I may try would be to turn the iPAd around away from me, and see if I can use it to record something onto it as a kind of poor mans rear camera.

Apple won't want two iPads fighting it out during the holidays. They want the current iPad to run it's journey before canabalizing it with a new generation.

Good point. Apple is set to cruz into the holidays with what may be the number 1 wanted gift. Adding a model would likely add uncertainty to decision makers.

Also as we should know most Apple resources have been concentrated on the new iPods.

There is no reason for a refresh this year. Sales of the current generation are strong and there is no serious competition (other than the new iPod Touch). They can afford to take more time to develop features for whatever comes next--maybe in April.

I think the 3G chatter was not so much a rumor as pure speculation: Do you think Apple might....? And people got excited because they imagined ditching their cell phones and Skyping their way to happiness. And it makes a kind of sense if you think of the touch as an iPad nano.

As to the new-product-in-November rumor, to be fair, that idea has been knocking around in some Very Serious (though usually unreliable) places, like Digitimes. Didn't some analyst just last week describe the Samsung Tab as being targeted at the new 7-inch iPad "expected to be released in time for the holidays," or words to that effect?

I wish there was some kind of market where you could trade in predictions. Short all these November rumors and pay for your Xmas shopping.
