I confess I love my MBP. It has really become the love of my life... :D But i'm even more excited to get rid of it, and purchase the next generation MBP, that is: the 64 bit Merom MBP ( It is still on it's way isn't it? ). ;)

So basicly my question is:

When is the Next Generation MBP going to hit the marketplace? I want to get one As soon as they come out. But I don't want to have to get rid of my current one untill the last moment before they are released. Not only that, i want to have it sold before it hits the marketplace so I can get the best return-value from it, to help me pay the majority of the next MBP's cost. -_-

So any ideas, speculations, rumors, predictions, convictions, as to when this may be happening?

There is no possible way that you will ever get an accurate estimate for that. You want to know a day or two before the release with enough confidence to know to sell it?

Not going to happen.

Cheer up. All I want to know is the time of year, maybe the month. ;)

And, again, no one knows that who will tell you.

Plus, there are reports that the 64 bit next-gen chip might, in many ways, be worse.

No one knows that, even. A lot are speculating that Paris will bring merom. But then again, many thought that WWDC would, as well.. which it didn't. All we can do is guess.

I would say, though, that by this time in the year 2010, you'll definitely have an upgraded MBP. :D heh.

Lol... ok you win... Johnny Raincloud :p

Tuesday, DEFINITELY Tuesday. Steve Jobs called me on my super-secret-cell phone and told me. He also told me that people on MacRumors who start threads asking about when Apple will release new products when ABSOLUTELY nobody except three people at Apple knows makes him laugh really hard...really.

Me and MovieCutter seem to have the same source, Steve told me the next Macbook Pro would be a 20 pounder with a 10 foot screen. Also, if you like your Macbook pro so much… why don’t you just keep it? If apple does introduce a Merom Macbook Pro, its just because they need to stay aggressive in the marketplace. The ppw on those chips seems pretty bad, and you’ll only see a small speed increase. You really need to slow down, calm down, and just be happy with what you have. If you have that money to upgrade “As soon as they come out” then you’ll just have to use some of that money to take a loss on your Macbook Pro. If you don’t already know, the market is already very congested with used Macbook Pros, so your going to take a pretty big loss on it.

May I ask how? From all the benchmarks I have seen, it seems to be the same or faster in every test (if we are talking core duo vs core 2 duo).

If this is true, I am even more comforted with my new macbook!

ppw, thats all i have to say.

Dont really understand why you'd want to get rid of what you have when its more than powerful already. Id hold out till next year you will lose a lot of money upgrading when something new comes out because it happens all the time

i thought i saw somewhere that the core duo actually beat the core 2 duo in some benchmarks....or was i dreaming?

Id laugh if that was true everyone is holding out for this magical chip (Admittedly I was too :D)

I don't care about the speed of the 64 bit processor. I just want it so it will be future proof because I can't justify the money if it isnt going to be. But then again, I won't be getting my laptop till a year from now so it will be out.

My guess is they'll release it during their Paris Expo, which is taking place September 12th to 16th (in Paris:p ). My guess is:

15.4" ($1899):
2.16 GHz Merom.
2x512 MB RAM.
256 MB X1600
100 GB HDD
8x DL SuperDrive
FW800
Expresscard/54
68 Wh battery
Magnetic latch

15.4" ($2399):
2.33 GHz Merom.
1x1 GB RAM.
256 MB X1800XT
120 GB HDD
8x DL SuperDrive
FW800
Expresscard/54
68 Wh battery
Magnetic latch

17" ($2699):
2.33 GHz Merom.
1x1 GB RAM.
256 MB X1800XT
160 GB HDD
16x DL SuperDrive
FW800
Expresscard/54
68 Wh battery
Magnetic latch:D

15.4'' can't get DL superdrives because of space if I remember right. (Ever since slimming down to 1'')

I think the estimates are significantly overpowered, especially the higher 15.4''. I'm thinking more like: 2.0gHz/2.16gHz/2.33gHz. And 128/256/256MB x1800. Magnetic latch. And most of the other stuff stays the same.

I'd say we'll see straight 1x1 GB Ram throughout - otherwise, these predictions are probably fairly accurate (except for the 160 GB HDD - not sure if they'll get there)

I know the currecnt MBP's can't have a 8x DL SuperDrive, but Apple has improved technology, and they should be ready with a 9 mm 8x DL SuperDrive soon.:D

I know the 160 GB HDD and 16x SuperDrive is a bit optimistic for the 17", but I'd like it. :D

Also, I would love them to have Expresscard/54, since 34 is nearly useless. Also, the 15" needs 68 Wh battery. 4.5 hours is just wussy...

you might wanna make sure you are looking at the benchmarks for the mermon (laptop version) core 2 duo not the conroe (desktop version) of core 2 duo. They are different. Conroe is faster and sports a faster front side bus
