iPad 9, mini and air in the fall.
Doubt we’ll see an Air update this year. Too soon, since it would only be moving to an A15. The 2020 Air got the latest A series chip pretty much day-and-date with the iPhone 12, so it’s hardly due for an upgrade. They’ll likely wait for A16. Air is only on its 4th generation at this point since its 2013 debut.
The regular iPad and Mini will be the most likely updates this fall.
It’s almost guaranteed that the regular iPad 9th generation will come out this year with a possible redesign to be 10.5” like the 3rd gen Air and probably have A13. This would be the perfect iPad for my dad, since he’s about ready to pick up his first iPad.
The Mini has been a wildcard for years now. The 5th generation was a bit of a surprise, as many thought it was done. Rumors continue to float around about an updated Mini, even last year. I was hoping we’d get the 6th gen Mini last fall, so hopefully it finally happens this year.
Not sure which rumors to believe about the Mini 6, though. Some predictions say it’ll be a Mini Pro, while others say it’ll be more of an internal upgrade, like it got in 2019. If it’s a Mini Pro, I’ll have a very difficult time resisting it. Love its form factor, but I don’t need a Mini Air, as I already have the 2020 Air. It would need something unique to separate it from the Air for me to pick one up at this point.
