Note that the measurements linked in the OP are for the
case. It looks like it would have a material thickness of at least 1 mm.
I've done some comparisons with my 4S and Note 2, which suggest that the 5.5" iPhone 6 will have the same side bezel width as the 4.7" model (same as the 5s). So, the width seems totally acceptable to me. It is narrower than my Note 2, which I already find has an acceptable width for a 5.5" phone, and most likely narrower than the Note 3 as well.
Continuing the comparisons, the 5.5" model seems to be 3.8 mm taller than the Note 3. That's not enough to be a dealbreaker for me. I'll take into account that both iPhone 6 models are said to be 7 mm thick - 1.3 mm thinner than the Note 3 and 0.6 mm thinner than the 5s. This
will add to the overall feel of size, even though that variable is being underestimated right now.
Additionally, let's remember how rounded the sides of the iPhone 6 dummys are. Meaning that the phone won't actually feel as wide or tall as if those measurements had been of a device with squared edges, like the Note 3.
Regarding the weight - phablets see more prolonged use for media consumption etc., so a lighter 5.5" phone is nothing to spit at. I was watching the WC games for 2 hours+ last night on my Note 2 and I did find myself wishing that the device was lighter. (I've posted this part in several threads today, sorry if I'm repeating myself
)
Ergo - do as you like but I'm not getting my knickers in a twist over the size of this thing. I feel more calm after doing some further research since posting what I said a few posts up. And, bottom line - I find it utterly unbelieveable that Apple, after years of refusing a substantial size increase, when they finally cave in and make one, would make the damn thing too large to handle. It just doesn't make sense.
