Following rumors, we could see:

- Lidar camera
- 120Hz screen
- Better cameras and better night photography
- TouchID under the screen (rumors of Apple Watch having it also makes me believe this is gonna happen)
- USB-C (possible, but less likely)
- 128GB base storage (therefore cheaper iPhone)
- OLED screen in cheaper model (follow up to iPhone 11)
- New screen sizes
- A13
- 5G
- MAYBE smaller notch
- MAYBE better FaceID
- MAYBE better fast charging

If half of this turns out to be true then it would be a huge upgrade over XS and 11 Pro.

Cameras are a given
It will be A14 in 2020
5G isn’t going to revolutionize mobile connections the way people imagine it will
Touch ID behind the screen is really iffy at this point

I’m sure all the new models will be a pretty great upgrade, but it also depends on what phone you’re coming from. From your list alone I wouldn’t recommend an upgrade from an 11 Pro.

$1099 iPhone 12 Pro 6.7”
$999 iPhone 12 Pro 6.1”

5G ( No mm-Wave Support ) / 6GB RAM / Triple Camera / LIDAR / A14 ( A13s? ) / Pro Motion OLED / Face ID 2.0 / 128GB / WiFi 6E / "Pro Design" or Boxy Design, Which is sort of the design languages Apple uses for "Pro".

$749 iPhone 12 6.1”
$649 iPhone 12 5.4”

5G / 4GB RAM / Dual Camera / A14 ( A13s? ) / OLED / Face ID 2.0 / 128GB ( May be 64GB with -$50 Starting Price ) / WiFi 6E / Curve Edge Design, similar to iPhone 11.

$599 iPhone 11
$499 iPhone XR

$499 iPhone SE 5.4” ( Non Scaled Resolution @ 1536 x 864 ? ) / March 2021 ?
$399 iPhone SE 4.7”

4.5G / 3GB RAM / Single Camera / A13 / Liquid Retina LCD / 64GB / WiFi 6 / Classic Design.

For some strange reason I think we might see a die shrink of A13 ( A13S ) rather than A14. Hopefully the whole lineup should be all Qualcomm Modem. I mean if it wasn't for the pandemic, the boxy design alone would have been exciting enough.

I really wish they drop the whole Max and Plus naming. You get two screen size per class, and that is it.

Echoing what others have said: doubt we’ll see Touch ID under the display. Haven’t seen many rumors about this nor is there a really strong reason for it.

My hope is for even more improved cameras with more realistic night mode that’s also expanded to Ultra Wide mode; 120 Hz OLED display; new design with smaller notch and, if possible, a boxy design like the new iPad Pros; and finally USB-C please!

The "huge" upgrade imo will be just 5G and 120Hz screen. And one of those, 5G, can only be enjoyed by few. The rest are just iterative improvements over the 11 Pro.

It will be the same formula. The iPhone 12 Pro will be targeted towards those who are still using iPhone X/Xs or older, with the regular iPhone 12 targeting those still on iPhone 8/8 Plus. 11 Pro users probably don't need to upgrade.

DEFINITELY
- OLED screen in all even the base models
- Lidar camera
- 120Hz screen
- Better cameras and better night photography
- A14
- 5G
- smaller notch
- better FaceID

MAYBE is
- 128gb storage (but this is the most likely)
- better fast charging

NOT LIKELY
- touch ID
- USB C

I don’t know why everyone brings up promotion when none of the recent rumors even mention it.

Touch ID is not happening this year.

I have the 2018 & 2020 iPad and I really can’t tell the difference with the 120hz screen. But if it lowers battery consumption by lowering screen refres rates then I’m for it. I can’t really call it game changing.

@OP “If half of this turns out to be true then it would be a huge upgrade over XS and 11 Pro.”

12 Over the XS will be a major upgrade.

12 won’t be a huge upgrade from 11PM.

Let me point out.....Night mode is software driven and the neural processor in 11PM will allow same night mode upgrades the 12 may get.

120hz display, smaller notch, new design, Qualcomm antenna, better face ID and 5G.

No in-display finger ID or full screen yet.

I agree. It’s not a reality this year, but I definitely think touch ID and Face ID will eventually coincide with each other at some point. I think the technology is ready, but when Apple decides to release this technology is another discussion. But it is coming, as it’s been rumored for almost 2 years.

Yeah that’s why I said this year, cause next year I believe it will have Touch ID. I think next years iPhone will also be a nice upgrade.

I got the 512gb Max Pro this year so i will probably skip this update. But then again i tell myself this every year. Im really curious what they have planned for the Lidar scanner in regards to photography, im sure they have something up their sleeve.

I am looking forward to this year's release. I have the Xs Max which is working well but I'd love to have the camera improvements.

I have no reason to upgrade my xs then.
I need something more compelling.

Night mode is made possible because the iPhone 11 has 100% focus pixels. If night mode were purely software, it would already be available on the telephoto and ultra-wide lenses.

It was mentioned several times last year about pro motion...be surprised if it doesn’t come with it.

Last ‘rumor’ I seen was from July 2019 and that was from someone on Twitter.

Not even macrumors has promotion listed.

I would really like TouchID under the screen, but there haven't been any recent "leaks" about it, so I'm pretty sure it's not happening this year.

Looks like I finally should upgrade from my iPhone 5S. That 5.4" sounds brilliant, especially with those new features

USB-C isn't happening. It doesn't make sense to put on a new connector just for a gen or two before Apple tries to go more wireless.
