When do you guys think will the iPhone be updated again?
I am debating if I am going to buy the iPhone now. I have to shell out the full price as I am not eligible for the discount yet.

2G - June 2007
3G - June 2008
3GS - July 2009

Uh... notice a pattern?

June/July ... August at the latest

With this next iphone I hope the shell actually looks different. Although I already think it looks sexy as hell.

If we see the Apple/AT&T exclusivity deal break this coming year then this iphone might come with EVDO/LTE/GSM capable hardware for Verizon or Sprint...or not if they go with T-Mobile. lol But I would'nt count on it.

I hope they opt for different colors other than black or white if they do go with a different carrier. Like AT&T gets orange and blue, Verizon Red, Sprint yellow, Tmobile get that what is it...magenta hot pinkish color.

Very doubtful. At most we may see GSM chip updates to include the T-Mobile frequency for 3G. LTE is a long ways out and won't be supported in any current hardware.

Verizon/Sprint is unlikely at this point in time. Just my take on it.

I thought some unlocked phone users were already using them on Tmobile? I know their gsm frequency is different but would it need a whole different chip? How are they doing it now? lol Im not all techie so I dont know how their doing it.

I could see sprint being waay out of the picture since their going with that mifi. But Verizon "supposedly" said they were going to have LTE ready in some metro areas in 2010. Or did I read/remember wrong. lol

Isn't AT&T going with the LTE technology also?

Can you blame these people for asking? These days it seems that so many people on the internet can predict the future and know everything about anything. :D

The current 3G chipset doesn't support all 3G frequencies. So T-Mobile users with unlocked iphones can get Edge but not 3G service.

LTE beginning to roll out doesn't mean we'll see the iPhone support it. If anything the iPhone has been BEHIND when it comes to actual bleeding edge hardware. 3G wasn't bleeding edge and the iPhone didn't support it until the second generation. I wouldn't expect LTE support until we see widespread adoption of the technology. A rollout that so far as consisted of nothing but press releases isn't really a rollout, it's hype. Only a few major areas will support LTE in the beginning. The rest of the country won't see it until 2011-2012 at the earliest.

the Internet has spoiled us. it gives us answers to nearly every question instantly, so we think it can even give us answers to questions that are unable to be answered yet.

is it really that hard to wait until apple's conference in February/March for them to tell us if another iPhone is in the works? we need to just be patient and be thankful for what they have already given us, which is pretty incredible

Ohhhh I didn't understand that the tmobile unlocks could only do edge. That sucks. Lol

As for the next iPhone supporting LTE I agree that we won't see it in the next phone. Which I really don't care because I just got my iPhone and AT&T like two weeks ago so I'm going to be stuck for the next two years with them. So if verizon gets it up before then and offers the iPhone I'm not willing to pay the ETF. In fact I'd rather AT&T work on their 3G covereage and dropped call BS before they start worrying about 4G.

I bought the new 3GSX last Friday.

If you NEED an iPhone now, buy it. If you can wait until nest Summer, wait.
