Does anyone have an inkling of when MBPs are likely to be updated again? I'd like to buy one, but I'm deciding whether to wait a few months first.

Have there been any hints of a new chipset that can take more than 3 gigs ram, screen updates, or more dramatic updates?

My guess is the next update will be an enclosure update and it will be a while. I think that the MBP needs to catch up to the MB when it comes to enclosures...

Intel will release the Santa Rosa platform in April...Mac will probably intro Santa Rosa into the Macbooks/MBPs a few months later.

I'm just going to get a Macbook Pro now and be satisfied for at least 2 or 3 years!

I can't see Apple releasing a platform that will make the current MBPs extinct in the next 3 years.

***Is there a possibility that Apple will announce iLife 07 or a price drop within the next month?

Yes, as soon as Santa Rosa hits -- the update should be almost as soon as the various chips his Apple's required volume level.

And with just about everything but the XServe/Pro running the same chips -- the volume Apple needs is going to be big, and likely phased in over a couple months.

The earliest I can imagine a new MBP being out is June. It wouldn't make sense to release one before then (financially). As for Leopard, it probably won't be out before March. I'm imagining now that both iWork and iLife will come out the same time that Leopard does.

That's my two cents.

the current mbp was introduced in October, but was really more of a revision to the original (which was introduced a year ago). I'd imagine that apple is itching to get it into a new and (somehow) more innovative enclosure as it's essentially using the same enclosure as the powerbook from a good 3 years ago. Like others, I can't see apple changing the case without an entirely new chip from intel, at which point we'll probably see some other significant changes.

All that said, my guess would be May at the earliest (also perfect timing for the release of leopard), but you never know with apple.
