Hello, as you may know, i have created an account to post this message.
Today, May 23rd 2010, i went to Best Buy to purchase a Macbook Air since i did not really like the Macbook pro.

anyways, when i asked the employee for the Macbook Air, the employee lowered the Macbook Air price to 1319.99 with the superdrive.

I was confused, so i asked them why they were selling them for such a cheap price.

then they replied to me saying "We are waiting for apple to ship us the new version of Macbook Air and this is the last in stock, therefore we need to sell this Macbook Air as soon as possible"

so i asked them "when will the new version of Macbook Air come out?"
then they replied saying "after the ipad comes in to our store, so... about a month i guess?.. ( btw i am in Canada, so IPad is not available to us :(...)

I guess one of the employee leaked some good information to us :D

I would have liked this post a whole lot better if you had asked him the specs, or at least what was "new" about it ;)

I agree, I don't think Apple tells the sales folks anything. Once in the Seattle store one of the sales guys said that he follows Mac Rumors to get news :)

I might be wrong, but BB employees prob know less than Apple employees. I wouldn't put too much weight in what they said.

Thats true, but the fact that they are out of stock and employee telling us that the new ones are coming in kinda gives me hope :p lets hope that this is true! :D

News of selling the last MBA in stock has to be good, right?

I wonder if there will be a major update at WWDC... or if the MBA is just behind the MB in line to get updated with the same C2D/Nvidia 320m, 4GB RAM, 192/256 GB SSD as soon as MB stock is sufficient? Seriously, the MB is the number one seller to high-school graduates and those going off to college. It was probably more important to update the MB first... or maybe the MBA update will be incredible.

OP, did you get model with SSD or HDD for that discounted price? Either way, if SSD that's an amazing price way less expensive than refurbished. If that MBA suits your needs, that is an amazing deal for you, congrats!

People that don't need upgraded MBAs and are happy with the current capable MBA will probably get a much better deal buying the current rather than waiting for an update. I have to believe this update will reverse course and start increasing price of MBAs back to luxury product status.

I find this all unlikely if the model numbers havent been posted. If they don't have new model numbers then how would some kid working on the sales floor know that their is a chance new Apple anything is coming.

i dont think they are going to update it anytime soon. 2 options it will sit un updated for the next year like the macmini then get a silent update or it will be discontinued. i dont think apple will make any mac annoucements this year and no macworld in jan. this year will be about ipad and iphone.

If there's a 320m, 4GB RAM, 9 hour battery, 256GB SSD, 2.4 or 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Air coming, I will be very interested.

I can get that in the MacBook Pro, sure, but I never need ethernet, SuperDrive or SD...can't help feeling I'd appreciate the 3lb weight more than those features.

I might miss fw800 and dual USB though, I'd love them to do something about that.

This is the one reason im holding off on getting an MBA, though i can only imagine with these chips IF Apple updates the MBA at WWDC, we are going to be stuck with integrated Intel graphics.

That is definitely not true if the GMA IGP DIE is turned off. All of the rumors for ULV CPUs state the CPU DIE is overclocked thanks to the GMA IGP 45 nm DIE being turned off. This means Apple is planning to use a discrete "dedicated" GPU for the graphics solution. When looking for lowest TDP designs, I see the ATI 5430 at 7W and a marked improvement over not just Intel's GMA DIE but also the Nvidia 9400m we're used to in the MBA.

When we look at all of the information from the rumors, the picture becomes clear and tells us we've all not thought of what Apple is actually doing. As usual, Apple is three steps ahead of us providing something we didn't think as possible because we don't have the money to research all of the possibilities that Apple does. In addition, we cannot count on another company to introduce the innovation first.

The last piece to the puzzle truly is will Apple introduce this MBA now? Or is this reserved for an MBA later in 2010 or Early 2011? Apple could still introduce a C2D with Nvidia 320m right now, and this Core i7 CPU could be coming later. We know the information in the rumors is probably accurate, but I know from experience it takes far longer to bring a product like this Core i7 with GMA DIE off to fruition. I have reported things that are "supposed" to happen before and they don't come true for another year. So we really don't know the timing on this information.

The longer it takes for the update, the more likely we're going to get this actual Core i7 CPU with GMA DIE off... and a discrete GPU. Right now, ATI bests anything Nvidia could provide, so it seems the ATI 5430 would be inline with what Apple could actually use to lower the overall TDP of the MBA. Apple could provide a more capable MBA that uses less energy and allows more performance between charges.
