Considering the last one was more or less brought about because of the security exploit that was discovered/revieled, it might be until a similar event occurs, or Apple decides they are for/against all the hacking going on. They could work to improve the effort or defeat that with any given update as well.

I'm betting/hoping it will coincide with the release of Leopard...where the iPhone and Leopard will share some code -- like adding ToDos and Memo syncing (which will reportedly be part of the Mail app in Leopard) and and some sort of file browser...

But more than anything, I want Cut & Paste!

Well I guess we should look at it from the POV of Apple as a software company. Leopard supposedly comes around October. It's farely safe to say that the major feature updates rumored for the iPhone will come when they update the iPhone to Leopard. SO, do we think Apple is devoting resources to putting additional features into the iPhone's Tiger OS or do they have everyone focused on Leopard?

I suppose some smaller features like custom ringtones that got cut from the initial release at the last moment might be made production ready before leopard with minimal use of engineering resources. Ah well. We'll just have to wait and see. Personally I don't think anyone should expect anything major until Leopard for iPhone is done. Which of course is not necessarily going to coincide with Leopard for Mac.

Think i'll plump for the next iPod update, expected in Sept. The reason for this is i see it likely that iPod will run iPhone flavour OS X and so there'll likely be new syncable items, or at least in-line with iPhone. Also expecting downloadable apps on iPod 6G OS X, so expect that to get enabled for iPhone simultaneously. Sure they may not end up sync notes with Tiger and limit that to Leopard, but for the most part i don't think they're waiting on Oct to provide new iPhone functionality.

I don't care about new features. I just hope they don't wait for leopard to address bugs. I'd really like to listen to iPod while surfing. They need a bug fix release. Now!

I was just trying to approach the topic of iPhone updates from a logical perspective. Got any links about the iPod you are referring to or the 3rd party apps thing? The only iPod I was aware was coming soon was the video capable nano. And we already know from the screen shots/movies that it doesn't run OS X.
