Hi
I figured we could analyze and break down the Cons and Pros of having a Sandy Bridge chipset over the current C2Duo ones.
Add anything I might be missing...
Sandy Bridge vs Core2Duo (current)
PROS
- Faster Processors
- GPU maybe be roughly the same peformance as the currently Nvidia ones.
- Thunderbolt (that is a great add-on for this ultraportable with minimal data ports on it. There are quite a few external devices already coming out with Thunderbolt conectivity like LaCie.
- 4gb Standard and 8 GB Ram optional ?? that would be cool
CONS
- will they run hotter and noiser? Big Factor with these ultra thin machines..some report the new Feb. 2011 MBPros with the Sandy Bridge are running hotter than previous generation.
- lesser performing GPU?
- Speculation around Macrumors that it could be a slower overall performance in OSX
Do we really have to wait to June??....come on Apple pull the trigger for April/May with Mac Mini, Macbook, Classic Ipod etc.. Most hardware manufacturers usually switch to new internals as soon as they are capable to to stay competitive.
What say you Macrumors Fans? I would personally like to see
Thunderbolt option, optional 8gb ram....that's the only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger of getting a 13" one now.....I don't like laptops that burn my lap though if they go with the SB chips.
