Nextel/Sprint Iphone

Am I dreaming here or is this ever going to be a possibility? I absolutely need the Nextel direct connect otherwise I don't care who my phone provider is as long as I could have the Iphone. I used to bash the Iphone because I just saw it as a stupid fad/gimmick, well I spent about 2 seconds playing with one at the Apple store before I was honestly desperate for one with direct connect.

The only chance for that would probably be in 2012, when Apple's exclusive contract with AT&T is up.

I guess I am just going to hope someone takes notice of the precedent set in Europe with unlocking the phone. Nextel actually has a touchscreen phone but as usual I am sure it sucks along with all their other phones.
