Nextel Texting

I just got my iphone yesterday and for some reason i can't receive text messages from nextels and they dont get any text messages i send them. And also today my mom sent me something(t-mobile) and i replied and she didnt receive it. i don't know if since my number was original from nextel if that has anything to do with it or if i just need to give it alittle while. Any help would be appreciated. And also will there be an update with an application for aim? or what is a good site to use aim?

Is the area code in front of the number? I know in canada with telus with certain people unless i have 403 in front of all the numbers i text sometimes they won't go through.

What about other, non-Nextel (and never touched by Nextel) numbers? Are those working?

FWIW, Sprint is known for its non-standard implementation of text mesaging, and Nextel's version of SMS is an outright kludge. So it's not surprising in the least that there are problems, and you should check with others, just to be sure.
