First, apologies if this has been addressed in another thread.

I bought a 5s to try out (I have a 4) and I'm trying to be impressed. I'm overseas so the apple ecosystem isn't as alluring, although I am somewhat entrenched.

The Nexus 5 seems attractive (mostly for the chance to try out the OS). I'm holding off because of the poor reviews of the camera.

The 5s camera seems great, but I feel let down because of all the hype. But I know the old adage of the best camera you have is the one you have with you.

I'm wondering if I would be better off getting a Nexus 5 (is the camera good enough for spontaneous pics?) plus a small point and shoot.

I had a small Canon before which was great. I see there is one with GPS so the pics are geotagged, and I can record videos. Plus I can keep an extra battery. But I don't know if I'm deluding myself and will have a nice paperweight on my desk.

Thanks!

Honestly, if you were let down by the 5s camera the n5 camera will be a major let down. The camera update really fixed the shutter speed, but personally I think it has focus issues. Many time when I tap to focus the screen almost looks foggy and I have to tap again to get it to focus. The camera is still, IMO, the biggest issue with the n5.

I can get some really great shots with the camera, but truly spontaneous shots are a hit or miss. I usually take 4 or 5 shots just to ensure I get 1 of them the way I want.

Yeah, I guess I want a phone camera that's good enough for the spontaneous stuff. If I plan on an outing or trip I'd bring the compact for keeper shots.
