So my mothers going to be getting her OPO in a few days, so yay!
So she's going to give me her Nexus 5. But is it still worth it when the Nexus 6 is coming out?
Is it still fast, or a bit glitchy?
And I heard that Google only updates their devices for 18 months.
I may end up getting an OPO for myself but what do you guys think?

The nexus 5 is a fast phone and will be supported for a good while yet. It will undoubtably be one of first devices with the new Android L. Its a solid phone and worth using.

Simply wait for your mothers OPO to arrive and see which you prefer. I found the OPO far too big for me especially bezels top and bottom, and for same reason I'd run a mile from the 6+, the nexus 5 may be a more practical device but it really depends on how you use your mobile phone. Personally I'm still old fashioned and speak to people on mine (at least 60 mins a day) so practicality and ergonomics have pushed me away from phablets back to smaller devices. But if your mostly a messenger style user, the bigger device may suit. Just a case of have to use and see for yourself. :)

Get the OPO, you wont regret it.

It is the best feeling large phone I have ever used. It is super light, the stock android with Cyanogen makes it the best OS I have used on Android, and the thing is fast as heck.

I'm toying with the idea of getting a Nexus 5. I have the Moto X 1st gen and was really excited for the 2nd gen, but then I played with a work colleague's Z2 and I don't think I like the 5.2" screen size. I want something bigger than the 4.7", so I guess 5" is a happy medium.

Leaving that to one side for the moment, I am well aware that the N5 is a year old and due to be replaced by the (rumoured) larger screened N6/X/Shamu which will have, surprise surprise, a 5.2" screen. So my question is, do you think the N5 still has enough life in it for a few more years (2+) ?

Snapdragon 800, 2gb of RAM and 1080p are all still pretty standard. I don't know if I'd buy one for $350 but since you already have one it's a no brainer.
