It's a simple thing, really.

With the new, rather strong, Nexus 5... can the Moto X compete? Or has Google undercut itself with a good Nexus device that will overshadow its own device?

The Moto X recently dropped dramatically in price at many vendors, including Amazon, Wirefly, etc.

I think at this price point, the MX will do better, especially those who don't care about phones being unlocked and don't mind signing [their souls over to] a two year contract.

I actually may get some friends/family members who have upgrades to get on it. The MX is a great mid range phone that is a great size, runs near stock Android, and will get relatively timely updates. It's now finally priced right.

Too bad Moto shot themselves in the foot with Moto Maker exclusivity to ATT.

For everything else... go Nexus 5.

I guess it does make sense if you're willing to go contract and you don't care about specs. I just... I don't see why people who know about these things would go for a non-Nexus Android phone.

Near stock is good enough, I think, these days, especially since it seems it's almost unanimous that the few extra features the Moto X brings to the table actually make the overall experience better (Active Notifications, Touchless Voice control, ridiculously good battery life, double-shake to start camera...). In fact, it's a bit disappointing Touchless voice controls didn't make it to the Nexus 5.

Also, since Moto is a Google company, they seem rightfully committed to pushing out latest software updates: http://www.engadget.com/2013/11/01/...4-4-kitkat-include-moto-x/?ncid=rss_truncated

Hopefully it'll be as swift as HTC is promising! If HTC can do it, surely Motorola owned by Google can, too.

Also, I understand those who might prefer the smaller screen. I guess. ;)

Oh right, hadn't taken into account the screen size difference. And I know that the Moto X will be updated for at least... what was the magic number? 18 months?
