Near stock is good enough, I think, these days, especially since it seems it's almost unanimous that the few extra features the Moto X brings to the table actually make the overall experience better (Active Notifications, Touchless Voice control, ridiculously good battery life, double-shake to start camera...). In fact, it's a bit disappointing Touchless voice controls didn't make it to the Nexus 5.
Also, since Moto is a Google company, they seem rightfully committed to pushing out latest software updates:

Hopefully it'll be as swift as HTC is promising! If HTC can do it, surely Motorola owned by Google can, too.
Also, I understand those who might prefer the smaller screen.
