Just read an article that claims the Nexus line will still exist, even with Nexus phones.

Good news!

Now I can wait for the Nexus 6 and hope it improves battery life and has no big issues.

I guess it will come out with the release of Android L. Snapdragon 805 also could be guaranteed!

Snapdragon 805 + say 2600 battery + Android's L new battery optimizations could bring good battery life.

A continuing point of discussion, rumor, idle speculation, is the future of the Nexus device program. Android Silver is potentially on the horizon but according to Dave Burke, head of Android engineering and the Nexus program at Google, who was speaking to ReadWrite, that doesn't mean that Nexus devices will be killed off, nope.

"People have been commenting about Nexus because there is something else and they think that means the end of Nexus. That is the totally wrong conclusion to make"

The Nexus phones are never announced or shown off at Google I/O never. They always do a special little event for the new Nexus phone in October. And expect the sane this October with the Nexus-Six announcement.

And last year, the Nexus 7 Tabjet didn't come out till July, and Google I/O was in May last year.

Generally summertime, I think all were released in July

I feel a bit indifferent with it only because I find stock Android very boring and companies like Xiaomi and OnePlus are releasing devices at a lower cost with more interesting customizations or skins. So the price factor no longer works with me. Xiaomi could very well enter the US market and release their Redmi Note for $150 next year. I feel their Mi3 at $243 here locally offers better value than a $350 Nexus 5.

The incentives of owning a Nexus devices is shrinking by the day especially with smartphones with respectable specs costing under $100 very soon and the arrival of the Android Silver program which likely gets prompt updates. Stock Android is so bland. Same with the GPE versions of flagships from last year. Like popcorn with no butter.

You are reading into what he 'doesn't say' .... too much.

Basically everything he said could also mean we're going to continue to support nexus devices (software wise) and they aren't simply going away when we release the silver programme.

He does not mention new hardware or say anything about hardware .. Only 'going away' and 'exist', which are carefully selected vague terms & responses.

If nexus 6 is indeed to come out, they have nothing to lose and possibly more to gain by simply saying we plan to release a new nexus device in the future .... That didn't happen. I honestly think you will see continued support for existing nexus devices, and they will get L, but we won't see a nexus 6.

I think it's best to keep expectations low on Nexus devices. OEMs are very reluctant to make them as good as their current flagship devices. They always compromise on something, being the camera, battery, screen, audio, etc. I think Google has to accept this, or the OEM won't make the device.

I'm honestly more excited about the potentials of the Android Silver program.

The Nexus phones just seem to always have one or two things short of making them super great phones. Nice price point, no doubt, but I don't mind spending a little more to get more things right.

Hopefully Android Silver addresses that.

Otherwise, I'm really looking forward to the successor of the Moto X.

I think it's best to keep expectations low on Nexus devices. OEMs are very reluctant to make them as good as their current flagship devices. They always compromise on something, being the camera, battery, screen, audio, etc. I think Google has to accept this, or the OEM won't make the device.

Hmm...yeah, that's the question isn't it? If Google wanted to put out a really flagship specced Nexus, could they really do it considering their relations with other OEMs? Is that what Silver is all about?

Yeah, I'm really hoping Moto X2 or whatever nails it. I'd really love a better camera above all else.

My favorite thing about the Moto X? The fact that the screen lights up the moment I pick it up. I literally never have to power it on. I have the swipe-up-Google Now gesture to lock the screen too. I never hit the power button. It's a lovely thing.

Not sure if it's available in you country, but have you considered the Xperia Z Ultra GPE? Phablet and Nexus-like given that it is a Google Play edition.
