Nexus 7 Slowdown - Any Suggestions?

I am thinking I will have to do a complete wipe of my Nexus 7 because it has slowed down terribly in the last couple of weeks and I have no idea why no new apps installed recently. I am tolerant of the normal jitters here and there but it has become pronounced.

Maybe it was a recent update to an app, my only real change has been using Google Play All Access Music (or whatever they named it, sheesh what a mouthful).

Was planning to backup app data, then re-download the most used apps one by one until I find the culprit.

Do any of you use/like/dislike Helium or have an alternative that would allow me to backup - I am not rooted, and only download from Google Play Store.

Or is there an app that shows which apps are hogging the device? I don't see any suspicious apps in Settings>Applications>Running.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

You didn't put off doing a system update and then recently allow that system update to go through? I found the updates I received kept making my N7 perform even worse. I'd honestly just sell it off now, while you can still get a decent return on it, and wait for the next N7 (if you're keen on Nexus devices).

All updates went in as pushed out so nothing recent.

I'd hate to sell it prior to the next version of it and the next version of the iPad mini.

Check in settings and then apps for the Google Play Music app

If it has been caching everything you listen to it might have filled all the storage

I've got just over 8GB left of free space so that isn't it.

Oh well, guess we'll try the refresh route.

Another thing you could try

Select to uninstall Chrome, it wont remove it but it will put it back to factory version

I have seen a few reports of the latest chrome slowing things down

Funny you mention this, my Nexus 7 also just all the sudden started lagging like crazy about a week ago. This is even after a factory reset and I have very few apps on it. I use it mostly for the kindle app, netflix, and chrome.

I'll have to try these suggestions and see what happens.

I will try removing Chrome and Chrome beta

It's the cache partition most likely. This is why rooting and installing ClockworkMod is useful. Just to have that utility in the backend. Some people had this issue on the Kindle Fire and wiping the partition worked a treat.
