Ok, so here's my gripe.
For the last few years I've used almost exclusively Samsung android devices. There was a HTC handset in there somewhere, but the S2, S3 and S4 were my main handsets.
I'm big into rooting and modding my android devices. Nothing super technical, but I like being able to flash different roms and kernels, as well as visual mods and the like.
Samsung devices have always been easy to root, in many cases it's a one click sort of affair.
Anyway, I recently got a new job that saw me spend 1.5 hours to and from home, and I decided to get a small tablet for media consumption.
Not being a fan of the low res screen on the note 8.0, I jumped at the opportunity to pick up a 2013 Nexus 7 at a really nice price.
First of all, let me say that I love the 7. The size is really nice, the form factor is comfortable and feels really sturdy, it's lightning quick and the screen is gorgeous...BUT...
Why are nexus devices (ones that are aimed at the modding community and developers) so freaking painful to root?!
I spent an hour last night looking at guides to install fastboot/adb, then I needed to get something called nexus root toolkit, only to be told that my drivers weren't installed correctly, even though my pc recognised it fine.
It's ridiculous. For a line of devices that are supposed to be modding friendly, my experience was anything but, and I've got a good 2-3 years of android modding experience under my belt.
Has anyone else managed to root a 2013 Nexus 7 and is able to lend any assistance? Because I'm really lost.
