Just an open question to all fellow iPhone owners. If you didn't own an iPhone and had a choice between these 2 Android devices, which would you choose and why?

Google Nexus One or HTC Hero

To have a solid opinion I have to wait until I see a real Nexus One.

But looking at their specs, the snapdragon 1Ghz of Nexus make a real advantage over Hero.

Moreover, Nexus One will bring clean Android 2.1 from factory, in Hero you have to upgrade and use that HTC Sense thing.

For now, I'll buy a Nexus One. But, in my country there isn't any operator that can provide you the phone, so I'll have to wait or pay the big sum :(

Engadget has a great hands-on w/ video of the Nexus One and their review comes out today I believe. I would go with the Nexus One if I dropped my iPhone but I don't think that'll happen unless the next gen iPhone does not meet my expectations.

I haven't played with the Hero, but I've played with the Eris (almost equivalent to Sprint's offering). Comparatively, the Nexus One has a much nicer feel and performance.

Probably the Nexus one.

The funny thing about these phones is that newer = better. Up till now the buzz was for droid based phones, that has since died down because the Nexus has supplemented the droid in people's consciousness

Exactly. When a new Android based phone turns up, more people think that's the better one. Lol. I personally find the Hero a better device than the Nexus One on the whole with Sense UI.

I have a Nexus One and before that, I had a G1.

I have an iPod touch 64gb, didn't want to use a device with insufficient space for my entire collection for my iTunes library, and didn't see the point in having both an iPod touch and an iPhone ... plus, I have an AT&T Blackberry from work, and always think if you have two phones, it's best if they're from different carriers just in case. So for these various reasons, I've been very willing to experiment with Android.

The Nexus One's screen and processor speed make it stand apart from all other phones I've seen. I do like that the Droid has a physical keyboard yet still has a decent/normal physical design. The G1's physical design was a bit goofy. But if you don't need a physical keyboard, I think the Nexus One is at the head of the class right now for Android. The screen is 3.7" 800x480 OLED. The case looks understated and well-designed and feels good in the hand.

Comparing it with iPhones is more subjective because it depends whether the iTunes sync abilities of iPhones are important to you. If not, it becomes a question of better screen and specs on T-Mobile (for now)/Verizon (soon), vs more mature UI and greater built-in storage on AT&T.
